This was created for the Bad Ideas Game Jam in what was supposed to be a month, but ended up being about two weeks. I hope you like my outside-the-box take on the theme!

- Controls -

Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move around
X to interact with terminals, pick up and drop boxes, and advance dialogue
C to leave a terminal / go "down" a layer
R to restart the current level (On mobile devices, enter the pause menu with the minus button, then select "Restart Level")

- Tips -

I like to imagine moving in and out of terminals like going up and down ladders that connect a 3d layered space. The Terminals are the "ladders" that you use to go up a layer, and using the C key is like dropping down through the floor.

- Story -

You, among countless others, have been captured by the LockBox Institute, a branch of the government created to research the "BoxJump," an ability that lets you enter and move around inside of electronics! Those who are chosen to be tested never come back, and now it's your turn.

- Development -

Thanks to Jonny RaZer and Bad Ideas Productions for hosting the jam! It was a great experience, and I really learned a lot over the course of the jam. Mostly that I can't learn a whole new engine and expect to make a fully polished game in a month.

I started leaning Godot less than a week before the Jam actually started, and about two weeks in, I decided I couldn't realistically finish a halfway decent game in the given time frame, (or even a game at all), so I switched back to Pico-8, which I'm definitely a lot more familiar with. Trying to learn a whole new engine and make a good game in only a month was a highly ambitious goal, and I think it was a better choice for me to use Pico and learn Godot later without the time pressure.

To be honest, my first idea didn't even fit the theme very well, (it was literally just "a farming game, but cardboard"), and this is a much better product than I could've made If I had stuck with trying to teach myself Godot, which is saying something because the only time I really only worked on this game was for about a week and a half!

Jeez, that was a lot of yapping. You didn’t actually read all that right?

- Credits -

All sprites, art, music, sound effects, and code was made by me using the Pico-8 editor without the use of any generative AI.
I used the following sources as references to remember certain functions:
Pico 8 Cheat Sheet - lexaloffle.com (Very Helpful!)
Pico 8 Wiki - fandom.com

- Jam Stuff -

This is the stuff I'm supposed to include as part of the Bad Ideas Game Jam:

Somehow a typo made its way in, (bonus points if you can find it), but oh well, scuff=charm or something like that.
