Oops! All Mimics!

Exactly what it sounds like.

Audio Quality Disclaimer:

The audio quality is pretty bad on the web for some devices, (maybe just Macs?)
so I'd recommend downloading the game at the bottom of the page if this happens to you. (I swear it's not a virus!)

Nothing and No One to Trust

In this short little semi-horror troll/puzzle game, you  must escape a mimic-infested world where shapeshifting aliens have crashedlanded on Earth, hiding in plain sight! Anything and anyone could be a mimic, leaving no one and nothing you can trust, including yourself!

Walkthrough

Development

It was a blast participating in this jam, and I think this is one of my coolest creations yet. This is the first game of mine to have an actual story as well!

This was also my first time trying out making actual Youtube devlogs, and it was a lot of fun! You can check them out at this youtube playlist!

Credits

All art, code, music, sound effects and writing by me.

User GojGoiOi on Youtube came up with an idea which inspired part of the ending in the comments section of one of my devlog videos (highlighted comment at this link).

Audio quality is much worse on web

The audio may sound bad on the web version, (maybe just on macs??) and the footstep sounds just fully don't work at all, so if you can't hear the footsteps, or they sound really inconsistent, I'd recommend downloading the game from one of the options below for better sound quality.

I love the art and the story. A really well-done game jam sized game! I love the story and how it fits the theme!

Woah! I loved this game. The way you killed the player in so many ways and managed the trial and error game loop interesting with the checkpoints is amazing. Keep it up!

Love the game!

Very nice game, I enjoyed the vibe of it as well as the ending. The art was also really good. Once again, nice job!

I keep dying but I keep laughing to myself, very enjoyable game

Thanks for playing! I’m happy you liked it.

Hey, icicle, came back to play your game, and all I can say is great job! and love what you did with the playable sink now lol. I was finally able to play ur full game! 11/10. poor door asset, he was deleted lol.

Lol, thanks for the feedback!

I'm super impressed this was made by just one person, it was pretty fun and your pixel art is really good!

Thank you!

Great game!

I love the ending) But I think the guy behind will eat the guy with glasses

All game was interesting. Good job!

Todos los objetos y personajes son mimicos, cumple lo que promete 10/10

i legit cant leave the house lol. I couldnt figure out how to water the plant. I might be dumb. If it was the sink nothing I did worked. The fridge was evil so couldnt do nothing bout that and the door killed me too . 10/10 would play again if I could leave

(1 edit)

Yeah, in hindsight the sink is a bit misleading, I think I'll probably remove it in the final version. Thanks for the feedback!

I just uploaded my final build which fixes this issue and adds a bunch more stuff to the game if you want to check it out again.

Funny little game. I died on purpose to the obstacles in the first room just to see his dialogue and the animations, and they got me a few times for real too. The trash can bit was somewhat repetitive, I was hoping for more of the unique object avoidance, it felt more annoying to die the same ways repeatedly as opposed to losing to one of many things. The final section with the boss turning was alright, but I felt a bit cheated by the answer being spelled out for me after dying once. Not a bad game, and certainly a fun interpretation of the theme.

I totally agree about the trash cans being repetitive and having the answer to leaving the boss fight spelled out for you. I definitely stepped over the point where a hint becomes an instruction with that one. I'm still working on the game, so I'll try to fix those issues in the next version. Thank you for the feedback!

This is genuinely some of the best feedback I've received on a game before. Thank you for leaving such an honest and constructive review. I just uploaded my final build which fixes these issues, reworks a couple other things, and adds a bit more content as well. I hope you decide to give it another try!

I certainly will. Thanks for the kind words, I always try to do my best with a review.

This game is really cool, ive been wanting to play it after i saw your short about it
